John E. Schiuszie

August 5, 1931 to December 18, 2012

WINAMAC -  John Edward Schiuszie, 81, Rochester, formerly of Winamac, passed away at 4 a.m., Tuesday, Dec. 18, at his residence.

He was born Aug. 5, 1931, in Chicago, to the John and Pauline Smeja Schiuszie. He married Velma M. Carter on Sept. 16, 1961, in Chicago. She survives.

Also surviving are four daughters, Vivian (Mike) Long, Logansport, Leisa (Phillip) Watterson, West Lafayette, Cynthia (Earl) Burdine, Battleground, and Venell (Josh) Lett, Rochester; two sons, Douglas (Lanie ) Brigman, Egg Harbor, WI, and Chris (Linda) Schiuszi, Lafayette; 18 Grandchildren, 22 Great Grandchildren, and 1 Great Great Grandchild.

He was preceded in death by a grandson Nathan Robert Watterson, a great grandson Kyle Downing, and two sisters, Frieda Heller and Eleanor Jarawoski.

Mr. Schiuszie spent his early years in the Chicago area and had resided in Mosheim, TN, for several years. He moved to Winamac in 1976 and lived here until moving to Rochester in 2006. He was a veteran of the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict. He received the Purple Heart. He was a member of the VFW Posts in Winamac and Rochester, and the American Legion in Medaryville. He was the former owner of Zebon Concrete and was the contractor who built the Grotto at St. Peter's Catholic Church, Winamac, and St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pulaski.

No visitation or services will be held. Burial will be in Winamac Cemetery, Winamac.
