Richard J. Lamp

September 27, 1941 to November 8, 2014

FRANCESVILLE - Richard J. Lamp, 73, Francesville, passed away at 5:50 p.m., Saturday, Nov. 8, at St. Elizabeth East Hospital, Lafayette.

He was born Sept. 27, 1941, in Ironwood, Mich., to the late Peter and Severna Zambrovitz Lamp. He married Elvira Gutwein on Oct. 19, 1985, in DeMotte. She survives.

Michael Shidler, Houston, TX, Son 
Scott Shidler, Medaryville, Son 
Thomas Shidler, Houston, TX, Grandson 
Makayla Lamp, Wheatfield, Granddaughter 

Mr. Lamp moved to Francesville in 1985 and was a former resident of DeMotte. He retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 33 years. He was formerly the Postmaster at Lake Village, IN. He also served as president of the Postal Workers Union. He served as a sargeant in the U.S. Army from 1966-68. He was a member of the First Baptist Church, Francesville. He enjoyed fishing and traveling. He so loved to joke with his friends and family. He never met a stranger, and was an example to many of the lives he touched. 

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Tuesday, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Nov. 12, at the funeral home, with Pastor Dennis Gutwein officiating. Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville. Military graveside services will be conducted by the Francesville American Legion.

Memorial donations may be given to American Cancer Society, Diabetes Foundation, or First Baptist Church, Francesville.
