Richard E. McIlvain

May 16, 1948 to November 24, 2023

WINAMAC - Richard Earl “Rich” McIlvain Sr., 75, of Winamac (formerly of Medaryville), passed away Friday, Nov. 24, at his residence.

He was born May 16, 1948 in Logansport, to the late Roy L. “Paw” and Dorothy R. “Nan” [Schultz] McIlvain Sr. He graduated from Medaryville High School in 1966. On Nov. 19, 1999, he married Jan Renee Hansell in Crown Point. She survives.

Mr. McIlvain retired from Bethlehem Steel where he had worked for over 30 years. He served on the MedaryvilleWhite Post Volunteer Fire Department for over two decades. He was a longtime member of the Winamac FOE #2580. He was an outdoorsman and avid fisherman. He was known to keep wild and undomesticated animals around. He enjoyed floating the river, camping, racing of all kinds, motor cycle rides, and playing pool. He especially enjoyed tinkering on antique cars and old hit-and-miss motors. He could fix or build anything. He was an awesome husband, father, grandfather, and great-grandfather. He will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will from 5 to 9 p.m., Thursday, Nov. 30, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. An Eagle’s service will be at 7 p.m. The funeral service will be at 3 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1, at the funeral home with Pastor Tom Dewlen officiating.
