Brooke D. Billingsley

July 4, 1978 to October 11, 2015

WINAMAC - Brooke Danielle Billingsley, 37, of Winamac, passed away Sunday, Oct. 11, in Ft. Wayne.

She was born July 4, 1978 in Valparaiso. She married Gregory T. Billingsley on April 29, 2011 in Nashville, IN. He survives.

Mrs. Billingsley was a member of Pulaski County REACT. She was always there to lend a helping hand to others. She enjoyed camping, listening to music, and spending time with friends. She was a great cook. She was a loving and devoted wife, mother, and daughter. Her children meant everything to her. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.

Visitation will be from 1 to 3 p.m., Monday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 3 p.m., (Monday, Oct. 19), at the funeral home. Private burial will be at Mt. Zion-Franklin Township Cemetery, Winamac.

Memorial donations may be given to to the funeral home to help the family with funeral expenses.

Jensen Anliker

March 7, 1995 to October 10, 2015

FRANCESVILLE - Jensen Michelle Anliker, 20, of Anderson (formerly of Francesville) passed away at 9:11 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, at Riley Hospital for Children at IU Health in Indianapolis.

She was born March 7, 1995 in Monticello.

Ms. Anliker spent most of her life in Pulaski County where she attended West Central and Winamac schools. She graduated from Oak Hill High School in Oak Hill, WV in 2014. Most recently she was attending the Art Institute in Indianapolis where she was pursuing a degree in culinary arts management. She was employed at Wal-Mart in Anderson. She was very outgoing and she lived life to the fullest. She enjoyed cooking, music, motorcycle rides, and bowling. She especially enjoyed spending time with friends and family. Her family was everything to her. She will be dearly missed. Her family reports that "although we are saddened by our loss, we are filled with joy by Jensen's gift of life through organ and tissue donation."

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel, Francesville; and one hour prior to services Saturday at the church. The funeral service will be at 2 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 17, at Francesville First Christian Church, Francesville, with Pastor Lori Lucas officiating. Burial will be at Roseland Cemetery, Francesville.

Michael Cardwell

September 13, 1956 to October 10, 2015

WINAMAC - Michael David Cardwell, 59, of Winamac, passed away at 4:12 p.m., Saturday, Oct. 10, at his home in Winamac.

He was born Sept. 13, 1956, in Merrillville, to Elmer and Patricia Mayfield Cardwell.

Mr. Cardwell was a welder, machinist and boilermaker. He also did private construction in Lake County. He also worked in computer graphics. He was a member of the boilermakers union in Lake County. He was a member of the Moose Lodge. He enjoyed playing darts, pool and recreational shooting. He also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.

A memorial service will be scheduled at a later date.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Frain Mortuary, Winamac. 

Michael Nuss

January 9, 1985 to October 11, 2015

WINAMAC - Michael Wayne Nuss, 30, of Bourbon (formerly of Winamac) passed away at 10:22 a.m., Sunday, Oct. 11, in Burbon, as the result of an automobile accident.

He was born Jan. 9, 1984 in Valparaiso.

Mr. Nuss spent most of his life in Winamac. He had attended Winamac Community High School. He was employed as a welder and painter at Dragon ESP in Akron. He enjoyed fishing and spending time with his two sons, who were his world. He was a loving father, son, brother and friend. He will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m., Sunday, at Frain Mortuary, Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 7 p.m., (Sunday, Oct. 18), at the funeral home with Rev. Laura Bailey officiating. Private burial will take place at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.

Harvey A. Scheffer

Aubust 7, 1953 to October 6, 2015

ROYAL CENTER - Harvey A. Scheffer, 62, of Winamac passed away at 9 p.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6, at his residence.

Born Aug. 7, 1953, he was the son of Melvin Scheffer and Julia (Johnson) Turnpaugh.  On July 27, 1974, he married Jane A. Fisher. She survives.

Also surviving are son, Matthew Scheffer (Natasha) of Winamac, daughters, Rachel Scheffer of Star City and Laura Beth Scheffer of Europe, mother, Julia Turnpaugh (Tom) of Onward, brother, Roy Dean Turnpaugh of Peru, sister, Penny Crissinger (John) of Winamac, brother-in-law, Don Fisher (Janet) of Winamac and sister-in-law, Pam Olson (Gordon) of Valparaiso.  He is also survived by 7 grandchildren, Zach, Tiffany, Jacob, Matthew, Harvey Michael, Olivia and Alexandria.

He was preceded in death by his father and one brother, Arthur Scheffer.

Mr. Scheffer was a self-employed truck driver and he was also a farmer. He formerly worked at CFS. He was a former member of Eagles Lodge #2580 in Winamac.

A memorial gathering will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, Oct. 12, at Harrison-Metzger-Rans Funeral Home, Royal Center Chapel.

Vonda Z. Fisher

November 6, 1925 to October 4, 2015

WINAMAC - Vonda Zoe Fisher, 89, of Winamac, passed away at 8:15 p.m., Sunday, Oct. 4, at Life Care Center of Rochester in Rochester.

She was born Nov. 6, 1925, in Winamac, to the late Ira Earl and Fay Marie Miller Vanscoyk. Shemarried Lloyd Eugene Fisher in 1942. He died March 14, 1983.

Mrs. Fisher was former worker at the Rice Corporation in Monterey. She also worked as a bookkeeper for Good Oil Co. in Monterey. She was a member of the American Legion auxillary in Monterey and Winamac. She enjoyed music, art and watching game shows. She was a good wife and mother.

No services will be scheduled.

Burial of cremains will take place at Winamac Cemetery, Winamac.

Cremation arrangements have been entrusted to Frain Mortuary, Winamac.

Claire L. Connolly

March 30, 1932 to October 1, 2015

WINAMAC - Claire L. Connolly, 83, of Huntington (formerly of Winamac) passed away at 5:39 a.m., Thursday, Oct. 1, at Parkview Huntington Hospital.

She was born March 30, 1932 in Minneapolis, to the late Victor Emil Sr. and Edna Belland Mars. She married James T. Connolly on April 18, 1953 at the Bethel Baptist Church, Minneapolis. He preceded her in death.

Mrs. Connolly was a lifelong homemaker; however, she did work at Northwest Airlines for three years. She was an avid Purdue fan, an outstanding cook and loved to entertain. She was a member of the Bethel Bible Church and the Christian Women's Club in Winamac. She also had attended Salamonie Church of the Brethren.  Claire and Jim met in Winamac when he picked her up while she was walking home with a friend. Jim asked Claire's father for her hand in marriage, and her father replied, "gladly." They were engaged for 15 months before the wedding day. Their honeymoon was a trip to Seattle. The Connollys lived in Winamac most of their lives. They moved to Ft. Wayne, in July 2006 and then to the Heritage of Huntington in May 2007. Claire loved her family very much and will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be from 5:30 to 8 p.m., Sunday, at Heritage of Huntington Multipurpose Room (1180 W. 500 N. Huntington, IN 46750). A second visitation will be from 2 to 4 p.m., and from 5 to 7 p.m., Monday, at Bethel Bible Church (6966 W. SR 14 Winamac, IN 46996); and one hour prior to services at the church on Tuesday. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, Oct. 6, at Bethel Bible Church, Winamac, with Pastors Tom Hopewell and Mel Zumbrun officiating. Burial will be at McKinley Memorial Gardens Cemetery, Winamac.

Memorial donations may be given to Bethel Bible Church, Winamac, or Salamonie Church of the Brethren, Warren.
