WINAMAC - Jane Wieringa, 65, of Knox, passed away Sunday, July 4, at St. Joseph Regional Medical Center in Mishawaka.

She was born Feb. 15, 1956 in South Bend to Robert and Velma Jean Bair Jenkins. She grew up on the southside of South Bend. She loved her family very much and will be deeply missed.

Bozica 'Liz' Lindstrom

July 22, 1941 to June 30, 2021

MEDARYVILLE - Bozica “Liz” Lindstrom, 79, of Medaryville, passed away Monday, June 30, at her home.

She was born July 22, 1941 in Bačina, Varvarin, Serbia (formerly Yugoslavia). In 1956, she emigrated to Chicago. On May 11, 1973, she married Harry H. Lindstrom Jr., in Wheaton, IL. He survives.

Mrs. Lindstrom was a proud homemaker. She always raised a beautiful vegetable garden. She enjoyed canning and cooking. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She was a devoted caregiver to her in-laws, provider for her family, and gracious neighbor. She and her husband enjoyed 48 years of life together, especially traveling after his retirement in 1999.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m., Monday, July 5, at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Medaryville. The funeral service will be at 11 a.m., Tuesday, at the funeral home, with Rev. Jeff Seger officiating. Burial will be at San Pierre Cemetery in San Pierre.

WINAMAC - Sharon Lee “Sherry” Sanders, 73, of Winamac, passed away Friday, June 25, at Rush University Medical Center in Chicago.

She was born Dec. 10, 1947 in Oak Park, IL to the late John and Beverly Judae Lenert. She graduated from Sacred Heart Academy. She married Thomas J. Sanders on Sept. 7, 1968 in Naperville, IL. He survives.

Mrs. Sanders was a devoted wife, mother, and grandmother. She was also the friendly-faced license branch manager at the Winamac BMV. She was a member of St. Peter’s Catholic Church in Winamac where she formerly taught CCD and worked in the office. Her greatest wish was for her children and grandchildren to always remember how much she loved them and know that she will always be with them.

Joseph J. Slomka

February 25, 1941 to June 25, 2021

WINAMAC - Joseph J. Slomka, 80, of Knox, passed away Friday, June 25, at his home.

He was born Feb. 25, 1941 in Chicago, to the late Frank and Agnes Burness Slomka. He graduated from high school in Chicago. He married Twila Hoover on Aug. 15, 1998 in Knox. She survives.

Mr. Slomka was a hard worker. He worked in the mills, in construction, and as a hay farmer. He enjoyed a good cup of coffee and a smoke. He liked riding horses, as well as shooting, hunting, and fishing. Most of all, he loved his family very much. He will be dearly missed.

A private graveside service will be held at Winamac Cemetery in Winamac. Private entombment will be at the cemetery.

Carol S. Chapman

August 4, 1973 to July 17, 2021

KNOX - Carol Sue Chapman, 68, of Winamac, died Wednesday, June 23, n Lafayette.

She was born Monday, Aug. 4, 1952 in Winamac, daughter of the late Robert and Betty Tolson Wilcox. She married Roger Chapman on Nov. 1, 1969 in Knox. He died April 6, 2009.

November 1, 1969, in Knox, Indiana, Carol married Roger Chapman, he preceded her on April 6, 2009.

Surviving are sons Jason (Shelly) Chapman of Idaville, and Justin(Christy) Chapman of Winamac; 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her sister Carrie Lykins.

Mrs. Chapman was a member of the Calvary Baptist Church and was active in the school. She and her husband owned and operated several business in the Knox downtown area. She loved music and singing. Her greatest passion was spending time with her family.

Friends will be received from 9 a.m. until the time of the funeral service at 11 a.m., Friday, June 25, at Braman & Son Memorial Chapel, Knox. Rev. Craig Ison will officiate. Interment will follow in Crown Hill Cemetery.

Memorials may be made to Calvary Baptist Church.

Elsie F. Lebo Scheffer

March 15, 1924 to June 22, 2021

WINAMAC - Elsie F. Lebo Scheffer, 97, of Pulaski, passed away Tuesday, June 22, at Pulaski Memorial Hospital in Winamac.

She was born March 15, 1924 in Winamac to the late Charles and Della Tunis Lebo. On Jan. 8, 1946, she married Gerald “Cal” Scheffer in Winamac. He passed away June 28, 1999.

Mrs. Scheffer was a dedicated farm wife and worked many years as a secretary at Pulaski, Star City and Winamac elementary schools. She enjoyed crocheting, playing cards, and spending time with her family.

Visitation will be from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., Friday, June 25, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 1 p.m., Friday, at the funeral home with Todd Wilson officiating. Burial will be at Winamac Cemetery (McKinley Addition) in Winamac.
