WINAMAC - Russell S. Franco, 74, of Winamac, passed away Monday, Feb. 22, at his home in Winamac.

Larry J. Edmondson

December 11, 1943 to February 25, 2021

WINAMAC - Larry Joe Edmondson, 77, of Winter Haven, FL (formerly of Star City) passed away peacefully Thursday, Feb. 25, at his home with family by his side.

He was born Dec. 11, 1943 in Linton, IN to the late Carl and Grace Perell Edmondson. He graduated from Jasonville (IN) High School. He married Mary Kathleen Williams on Feb. 17, 1963; they were married for 46 years until she died following a long battle with cancer in 2009. He married Betty Jo Gilbert Webster on Oct. 28, 2015. She survives.

Mr. Edmondson served as a jet engine mechanic in the U. S. Air Force. He was a hardworking man who dedicated his entire life to his family. He enjoyed singing karaoke, spending weekends at the racetrack with his family, listening to bluegrass and classic country, playing the banjo and guitar, playing golf, and watching his children and grandchildren live their dreams. He loved his sports on and off TV and was very passionate - even when the refs couldn’t see or let the girls stay in the lane for three seconds. His family was his everything. He was his grandchildren’s biggest fan and he cherished every moment he had with them. BR549, call me.

A private graveside service will be held at Buck Cemetery in Star City with Rev. Kevin Marsh officiating. Military honors will be conducted by the American Legion and VFW.

Earl W. Bangel

November 5, 1929 to February 15, 2021

KEWANNA - Earl W. Bangel, 91, of Lake Bruce passed away Monday, Feb. 15, at his residence, surrounded by family.

Born on Nov. 5, 1929 in Indianapolis, he was the son of the late Wilbur and Lillian Deerberg Bangel. He was a Warren Central High School graduate. On Feb. 27, 1954, he married Mary L. Dellinger. She preceded him in death on April 9, 2010.

Survivors include his children, Darel W. Bangel and his wife Nancy of Alabama, Linda L. Bangel of Michigan, Louis A. Bangel and his wife Jean of Winamac, and Bruce D. Bangel and his wife Theresa of Indianapolis; and brother Glenn Bangel of Greenfield. He is also survived by 7 grandchildren and 7 great-grandchildren and one on the way.

He was also preceded in death by sister Vera Lynch and her husband Thomas.

Mr. Bangel was a U.S. Army veteran, serving in Germany during the Korean Conflict.  He was a lifelong farmer. He was a member of Pleasant Hill United Methodist Church, Lake Bruce. He and his wife enjoyed square dancing.

Private family services will be held. Burial will be at Pleasant Hill Cemetery, Lake Bruce.

Tevis A. Craft Jr.

September 24, 1963 to February 19, 2021

KNOX - Tevis A. Craft Jr., 57, of Winamac, passed away Friday, Feb. 19.

He was born Sept. 24, 1963 in Knox, to Tevis Sr. and Alice Beauchamp Craft, both deceased. On April 24, 1982 he married Lori Brady. She survives.

Also surviving are his sisters, Tammy Tobey of Knox and Susie Clemons of Walkerton, and his brother, Ron Craft of Argos.

Mr. Craft was an avid fisherman, loved to golf and loved riding motorcycles.

Funeral services will be at 1 p.m. (CT), Friday, Feb. 26, with visitation two hours prior to services, at M.C. Smith Funeral Home in Knox. Burial will follow at the Denham Cemetery.

Jeffrey Weyer

March 7, 1979 to February 20, 2021

WINAMAC - Jeffrey R. “Jeff” Weyer, 41, of Valparaiso, passed away Saturday, Feb. 20, at his home.

He was born March 7, 1979 in Merrillville, to Jerry and Judy Johnson Weyer. He graduated from Washington Twp. High School in Valparaiso.

Mr. Weyer worked for NIPSCO as a lineman for many years. He enjoyed motorcycles and cars as well as working with his hands. He was a Tampa Bay Buccaneers fan. He adored his children, Lexi and Logan. He will be dearly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Visitation will be from 2 to 6 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 27; and 12 noon to 2 p.m., Sunday, Feb. 28, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., Sunday, at the funeral home with Rev. David Norris officiating. Burial will be at Winamac Cemetery (McFarland Addition) in Winamac.

Alma R. Moody McFarland

October 21, 1931 to February 22, 2021

WINAMAC - Alma R. Moody McFarland, 89, of Winamac, passed away at 3:15 a.m., Monday, Feb. 22, at Hickory Creek Healthcare in Winamac.

She was born Oct. 21, 1931 in Pulaski, to the late Frank Louis and Catherine “Katie” Foerg Worley. She graduated from Pulaski High School. She married William D. “Dudley” Moody on Aug. 15, 1953. He passed away July 18, 1972. On Aug. 30, 1974, she married Kenneth R. “Kenny” McFarland. He passed away June 25, 2016.

Mrs. McFarland was a lifetime member of the Winamac VFW Auxiliary Post #1728. She enjoyed spending time with her friends, especially playing cards and Yahtzee. She also enjoyed fishing and bowling. She was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. She will be dearly missed.

Visitation will be from 12 noon to 2 p.m., Tuesday, March 2, at Frain Mortuary in Winamac. The funeral service will follow at 2 p.m., at the funeral home Rev. Andrew DeKeyser officiating. Burial will be at Winamac Cemetery (McKinley Addition) in Winamac.

Richard L. Overmyer

January 30, 1943 to February 13, 2021

FRANCESVILLE - Richard Lynn Overmyer, 78, of Francesville, passed away Saturday, Feb. 13, at IU Health Hospital in Lafayette.

He was born Jan. 30, 1943 in Rensselaer, to the late Henry Lee and Velda Virginia Wuethrich Overmyer. He graduated from Francesville High School in 1961 and Purdue University with a bachelor’s degree in industrial science and technology in 1966. He enlisted in the U.S. Air Force on Dec. 8, 1966 and served four years, including a year at Da Nang Air Base in Vietnam. On June 4, 1967, he married Beverly Bell of Chalmers, at the Chalmers Community Church. She survives.

Mr. Overmyer and his wife began their life together at McDill AFB in Tampa, FL. Upon his return from Vietnam, he completed his tour of duty at Seymour-Johnson AFB in North Carolina. Honorably discharged on Dec. 8, 1970, he returned to his family’s farm in Francesville where he began a 50-year career of growing popcorn for Orville Redenbacher. On March 1, 1979, he founded Twin Bridges Farm, Inc. with his wife, son, and daughter where he continued his farming operation until his death. He was a member of the Francesville Apostolic Christian Church. He enjoyed gospel music and hymns of the church. He was proficient on several instruments, with guitar being his favorite. He especially enjoyed playing and singing with his grandchildren. He loved his entire family very much and will be dearly missed.

Private services will be held at Frain Mortuary Querry-Ulbricht Chapel in Francesville. Private burial will take place at Roseland Cemetery in Francesville.
