Haschel, Bailey complete Boston Marathon

Two Winamac men completed the Boston Marathon Monday (April 21).

Mike Haschel, 30, finished the race with a time of 3:13:54, while Glenn Bailey, 49, clocked in at 4:10:55. Both also ran the race last year.

Bailey ran the marathon on a sore knee, according to his wife, Dawn, which added about an hour to his time from last year.

Marathon organizers reported that 35,671 runners competed, representing 80 countries. The runners start the race in waves, beginning at 10 a.m. The winners were Kefezighi of California for the men in a time of 2:08:37, and Rita Jeptoo of Kenya repeated as winner for the women in a time of 2:18:57.

A total of 332 runners from Indiana took part in the race, and 291 finished

The Boston Marathon is a signature event for the city, and has been run since 1897 on Patriots Day, the third Monday in April - a holiday in Boston. Tens of thousands of spectators turn out each year to watch.
