Elementary students 'Rock Out' for philanthropy

The Fans of Philanthropy Club (FOPC) recently held two after-school camps for elementary-age students ranging from first- through fifth-grade.

Thirteen students from Eastern Pulaski and 15 students from West Central elementary schools participated in the camps.

Kim Krause, PCCF Scholarship Coordinator and Youth Ambassador, has been directing the Fans of Philanthropy Club, an initiative of the Pulaski County Community Foundation, since 2011.

The goal of the Club is to teach elementary-age students what philanthropy is all about. With the help of Phil Anthropy, students are taught how they can give their time, talent, and treasure for the common good. Stories, games and crafts are teaching tools, and students work together responsibly to complete a project that allows them to give back to the community. By helping to instill these values at a young age, the children become equipped to carry out what they have learned and apply it to their daily lives through the school years and beyond.

This year students from both elementary schools took part in putting together "Socks of Love" for two health care centers in Pulaski County. FOPC kids filled socks with personal hygiene items that were donated by FOPC families and volunteers.
