New scholarship honors pioneer farmers

The Senn Family Scholarship has been established at the Pulaski County Community Foundation.

The renewable scholarship honors the family of John Senn, Sr. (1808-1889) who was an immigrant from Switzerland. Following purchase of a tract of land in Pulaski County from the United States government in 1840, John and wife Catherine Waggoner homesteaded a farm and raised a family, many of whose descendants still live in the area.

The Senn Family Scholarship will assist students graduating from a Pulaski County high school who intend to pursue careers in agriculture or ag-related fields. Additional criteria include a GPA of 3.0 or better, participation in ag-related activities and financial need. Scholarship support will be renewable for up to four consecutive years, and an additional recipient will be selected each year.

Scholarships for 2015 graduates will be made available in February.
