Parents memorialized through new scholarship

Too often we take for granted all that parents do for us.  But in this case, the children of Don and Mary Good of Monterey have come together to create a permanent memorial to their parents.

The Pulaski County Community Foundation (PCCF) is pleased to announce the creation of the Don O. and Mary M. Good Memorial Scholarship.

Made possible by children Dixie, Don, Dean and Debbie, the fund will provide annual wards to deserving high school graduates residing in Tippecanoe Township who will attend a two- or four-year public/private accredited college, trade, or vocational school.

“We believe this is a meaningful way to recognize our parents’ efforts and all they did for us,” said Debbie Good.

Don and Mary M. (Sparks) Good were loving parents of four children and lifelong advocates of public education.  Although neither of them had the chance to attend college, they believed all young people should have the opportunity to pursue a college education as a way of opening up more employment opportunities and new experiences. They actively encouraged their four children and ten grandchildren to take advantage of every educational opportunity available, especially when it came to attending college.

Speaking for her siblings, Dixie Good said, “We established this scholarship in honor of our parents’ devotion to their family, their community and to making the world a better place.”

Clearly, the Good’s children want to remember and publicly acknowledge their parents and the positive impact of education in their lives. The permanent scholarship created in their parents’ memory will forever assist other local youth for generations to come.

The Don O. and Mary M. Good Memorial Scholarship will be available this year for 2015 graduates. Contact PCCF or your high school for more information.
