Indian Trails Career Cooperative receives two grants totaling nearly $422,000

MONTICELLO - Indian Trails Career Cooperative has announced it is the recipient of two awards totaling $421,926 from Innovative CTE Curriculum Grants.

Grants were awarded to North and South Newton schools as they collaborate on developing precision farming, agri-tourism and aquaponics. The second grant was awarded to West Central School in Pulaski County. In conjunction with the Pulaski County Economic Development Office, West Central will use its grant to concentrate on advanced manufacturing careers in Industrial repair and maintenance and certified production. 

Both grants focus on the development, improvement and expansion of Career and Technical Education (CTE) programs to address local, regional or statewide workforce development needs in high skills, high wage, or high demand occupations in critical or emerging industries.

Indian Trails consists of eleven schools; Carroll, Delphi, Frontier, Kankakee Valley, North Newton, North White, Rensselaer, South Newton, Tri-County, Twin Lakes, and West Central. 

James Stradling, director of Indian Trails said “This is a great opportunity for our students. Students will have the prospect of gaining the skills in high school to prepare them for high wage and high demand careers and/or post-secondary education. There were 43 applications for this round of grants. Only eight from across the state were awarded and two of the eight came from Indian Trails. It demonstrates the exemplary caliber our schools have when it comes to career and technical education.”

Last month, Indian Trails Career Cooperative was awarded a $100,000 grant from the Indiana Department of Education.

That grant will help schools expand industry certifications, licensing and dual credit offerings. Students will have the prospect of gaining the skills in high school to prepare them for high wage and high demand careers and/or post-secondary education.”
