Police arrest three in Medaryville standoff

MEDARYVILLE - Pulaski County police arrested three people Monday afternoon in a standoff which ultimately involved the state police, Medaryville police and final apprehension of the prime suspect by K-9 Gil.

Arrested were Eric Scott Wireman, 31; Shantelle E. Vierke, 21; and Sadie Wireman, 53; all of Medaryville. 

Wireman was wanted on a Starke County warrant for failure to appear for a status hearing in reference to a Count 1 charge of dealing in methamphetamine (B felony), and a Count IV charge of visiting a common nuisance (B misdemeanor).

On Monday (March 2) at 12:52 p.m., Sgt. Fred Rogers of the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department was sent to a residence on CR 160N near Medaryville in reference to information that he had received that Wireman was there. Rogers set up surveillance of the residence and observed several people going in and out of the residence. Rogers requested additional units and approached the residence where he was able to ascertain that Wireman was hiding underneath the trailer.

Rogers then called for a K-9 unit, and advised that there were several subjects on the scene who were uncooperative. Soon serveral more deputies from the Pulaski County Sheriff's Office, as well as troopers from the Indiana State Police, and the Medaryville Police Department were dispatched.

Once the officers were on the scene, and K-9 unit Corporal Travis Clark and K-9 Gill arrived, Wireman was given repreated commands to come out and surrender on his own. According to the police report, Wireman ignored the numerous commands, and K-9 Gil was sent in and located Wireman. Wireman was taken into custody, and was treated at Pulaski Memorial Hospital for a dog bite to his left arm. He was then transported to the Pulaski County Jail on the Starke County warrant, as well as an additional charge of resisting law enforcement (A misdemeanor).

Vierke and Sadie Wireman were arrested on charges of assisting a criminal (Class 6 felony) and disorderly conduct (Class B misdemeanor).
