Colts QB surprises the General Assembly with a visit

INDIANAPOLIS – Lawmakers at the Statehouse are still fangirling after a visit from an Indianapolis sports superstar on Tuesday.

Colts’ quarterback Andrew Luck was on hand to promote a program known as Change the Play – but that didn’t stop him from tossing the football with House Speaker Brian Bosma, R-Indianapolis.

Luck said he’d heard Bosma had previously caught a pass from former Colts icon Peyton Manning – now with the Denver Broncos – and didn’t want to be one-upped.

“This is a thrill for me,” Luck said. “I live a couple blocks away and ride my bike around here all the time. So to come in here is pretty special.”

Change the Play is about “empowering the kids in our community, our state to take on their health and have fun as they do it.”

The program, now in more than 100 Indiana schools, is an online challenge that encourages kids to take care of themselves. Children are taught to focus on overall wellness from exercise to getting the proper amount of sleep.

“I’m a big fan of fitness, exercise, physical activity but also was fortunate at an early age to learn the benefits of eating well, eating healthy, making good choices and how the combination from both sides is key,” Luck said.
