Food organization will be first lady’s major grant recipient this year

INDIANAPOLIS – Feeding Indiana’s Hungry will be the second major grant recipient from first lady Karen Pence as part of her annual fundraising luncheon on Thursday (April 23).

The Indiana First Lady’s Charitable Foundation’s second annual fundraiser is modeled after the U.S First Lady’s Luncheon. The event will have similar features, including a surprise guest entertainer, linens and bags made specifically for the event, and bi-partisan support.

The foundation’s mission is to support and recognize communities and organizations that promote the well being of Hoosier children and their families.

In its first year, the foundation awarded grants to 83 additional charities helping 68 counties.

Feeding Indiana’s Hungry includes 11 member food banks serving all 92 counties across the state. Pence said the group’s mission and service to Indiana makes it the perfect 2015 major grant recipient.

Pence will also donate 100 potted flowers to Keep Indianapolis Beautiful.
