Woman fatally stabbed; charges pending against person of interest

WINAMAC - A woman was fatally stabbed late Sunday evening near Winamac, and Pulaski County police report that murder charges have been filed against her husband.

Police also report the stabbing resulted from a domestic disturbance that was fueled by alcohol.

The victim, Tina Kasten, 58,Winamac, was pronounced dead at Pulaski Memorial Hospital. Her husband, Michael Kasten Sr., 59, attempted to stab himself at the scene as well. He was also transported to PMH and then flown via Samaritan Helicopter to Parkview Hospital in Fort Wayne where he is under observation, according to the police report.

A witness, who police are not identifying at this time, called 911 to report the crime which took place at the couple's home on SR 119.

At approximately 9:30 p.m., Sunday (May 17), the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office 911 Center received a call reporting that a female subject had been stabbed. As news broke early Monday morning about the incident, the Pulaski County Sheriff's Department reported that the public was not at risk.

Agencies assisting in the investigation are the Pulaski County Sheriff’s Office Patrol and Criminal Investigation Divisions, Indiana State Police Crime Scene Technician, Winamac Police Department, Pulaski County Coroner’s Office, Pulaski County EMS, and Star City Fire Department.
