NIPFP awards two scholarships

WINAMAC - Northern Indiana Power From the Past, Inc. (NIPFP) has announced the winners of two $500 scholarship awards for 2015.  

The recipients are Thomas W. Putt, a graduate of West Central High School, and Margaret A. Nagai, a  graduate of Valparaiso High School.

Thomas is the son of Mike and Donna Putt and will attend Purdue University, majoring in mechanical engineering.

Margaret is the daughter of Lee Nagai and Laura Bottorff and will attend the University of Nebraska - Lincoln, majoring in agricultural education.

According to club president Josh Wilder, “students are selected based on their leadership, involvement and participation in school and community activities, and also on their reflections relative to the philosophy of the NIPFP in the form of an essay”.

To be eligible to apply for the award, students must attend one of the following high schools:  Winamac Community, West Central, North Judson, Pioneer Regional or Culver; however, a member of the NIPFP may recommend applicants outside of these school districts.  Students must be going into the field of agriculture, engineering, veterinary medicine, agri-business, or a mechanical trade school. 

NIPFP will hold its 38th annual Antique Power Show July 16-19, at the Winamac City Park.

In the past 16 years, $23,500 in scholarships has been awarded.  In addition to the scholarships, the NIPFTP has contributed financial support to area county fairs, social and human service organizations, charitable organizations, rescue, police, and fire protection, youth organizations and other historical preservation shows.
