Arrest made in connection with hit-and-run incident

WINAMAC - A San Pierre man has been arrested on charges in connection to a hit-and-run incident Tuesday afternoon (July 21), resulting in serious injuries to a motorcyclist.

In a joint statement from Pulaski County prosecutor Daniel Murphy and sheriff Jeff Richwine, it was announced that Ronald L. Dobson, 62, San Pierre was arrested following the incident which occurred at about 4:35 p.m., at SR 39 and CR 700 N.

The injured man is Dustin R. Campbell who was air-lifted from the scene and transported to South Bend for treatment of injuries he sustained in the incident.

Authorities report Dobson was alleged to be driving his 2011 black Ford Fiesta that struck Campbell while he was riding his motorcycle.

Dobson was later arrested on charges of aggravated battery (level 3 felony) and leaving the scene of an accident involving bodily injury (level 6 felony). Murphy's office explains that aggravated battery requires proof that a person "knew or intended to inflict serious injury on a person that causes permanent or extended loss, impairment or death." The charges were filed in the Pulaski County Circuit Court.

Assisting Pulaski County deputies in the arrest and investigation were officers from Jasper and Starke counties. The investigation into this matter continues. Further charges are under consideration and may be filed against Dobson in Jasper and Pulaski counties.
