Schellinger– a South Bend native– currently serves as the CEO of CSO Architects, which is a design firm for civic, corporate, educational, hotel and hospitality, and health and research facilities. In 2008, Schellinger ran against former Gov. Mitch Daniels but lost in the primary by a slim margin to Jill Long Thompson.

“Jobs is not a partisan issue,” said Pence.

However, Democrat Chairman John Zody said in a statement, “It’s only after he put Indiana and its middle class in jeopardy that Gov. Pence has decided to listen to a Democrat on how to better improve the state’s sluggish economy and bruised well-being.”

Zody also called the governor’s perception of Indiana having a strong economy, “fictitious,” saying, “Democrats will continue fighting toward that end, and we wish Jim Schellinger well.”

“[Pence] has said it since he’s be elected that jobs is the first priority and I have seen him continually do that in every single meeting I’ve been in with him,” said Schellinger.
