Pulaski County 4-H'ers earn state fair honors

INDIANAPOLIS - Pulaski County 4-H members have performed extremely well at the Indiana State Fair this year.
Over 200 projects were sent from Pulaski County (this includes livestock) and numerous 4-Hers received blue and merit ribbons. Some of the local 4-H members also received some of the highest honors from the State Fair.
The state fair runs Aug. 7-23 in Indianapolis.
“It is an honor to get send so many 4-H projects to the state fair from Pulaski County,” said Natalie Daily Federer, County Extension Director and 4-H Youth Development Educator. “The 4-H members and their families work hard and it is wonderful to see their hard work on display at the Indiana State Fair.”
The Indiana State Fair awards ribbons are much like the county fair but with merits being awarded in place of honor ribbons. The State Fair does not award champions for projects but awards sweepstakes winners. Sweep stakes winners are selected as “champions” over-all which is the highest project ribbon exhibitors can receive at the state fair.

“Pulaski County 4-H members did exceptionally well this year at the State Fair. I am very proud of all of our 4-H members and their accomplishments,” said Federer. “I am truly honored to get to work with so many wonderful 4-H families here in the county and I enjoy seeing them accomplish so much with their projects.”
The Indiana 4-H Program celebrates the accomplishments of the 4-H youth who are exhibiting and/or visiting this year's Indiana State Fair. It takes time, energy and perseverance to be an active and committed 4-H member. 4-H focuses on a "learning by doing" method which enables the child to not only read and learn about his/her interests but also to complete a project to demonstrate what he/she learned in a particular area.
The program today focuses on positive youth development and human capital. Program directors utilize subject matter that enhances that development. Organizers recognize that the youth of today are future leaders. What they learn and experience in the 4-H program helps them develop into contributing citizens who will "give back" to their communities in the future.
