Vanderaa resigns coroner's position

Pulaski County Coroner Steve Vanderaa is stepping down from his position, effective Oct. 1

Blair Todd, chairman of the Pulaski County Republican Committee, has called a caucus Monday evening (Sept. 28) to select a new coroner.

Todd said Vanderaa gave no official reason for his resignation.

However, Todd noted that Vanderaa is spending a good deal of time out-of-county these days with new responsibilities. Vanderaa was appointed earlier this spring as coach of the new wrestling program at Ancilla College in Marshall County. He is also an instructor of criminal justice at the college.

Two candidates have filed for the coroner's position, Carrie Harvey and John Behny. Filing for the position ends at 5 p.m., Friday, at the county clerk's office at the courthouse in Winamac.
