Pence among 27 governors calling on Obama to review refugee resettlement protocols

INDIANAPOLIS – The fight over if and how the United States and individual states should take in Syrian refugees continues – now with a letter to President Barack Obama.

The letter signed by 27 governors including Indiana, Gov. Mike Pence, urges Obama to complete an exhaustive review of the U.S. Refugee Resettlement Program.

Pence added his name Friday (Nov. 20) to the letter that reads in part, “As governors, we are charged with ensuring the safety and wellbeing of our citizens. In order to adequately fulfill this duty, we request that you immediately review the process by which you conduct background checks on all individuals applying for refugee status and address the gaps acknowledged by your director of the FBI.”

The letter comes the same week that Pence, along with more than half of the nation’s governors, suspended resettlement programs aimed at resettling Syrian refugees.

The letter can be read in full here.
