Winamac Council takes another step toward new community pool

WINAMAC - The Winamac Town Council met in special session Friday morning (Jan. 15) to discuss matters relating to a new nepotism policy, the proposed new town pool, and the reorganization of the park committee.

Council member Judy Heater gave an update on the community pool.

Her committee is establishing a time line, and one item seeks the Town's agreement to pay the expenses, with reimbursement from the Community Foundation of Pulaski County, when construction begins. The council gave its approval.

In other business, discussion was held regarding Ordinance No. 2 of 2016, "An Ordinance Amending Personnel Rules and Regulations for the Employees of the Town of Winamac, 'Employment of Relatives' to Implement a Nepotism Policy." This is an update of the Town's current policy. The council voted its approval.

It was reported the Park Committee met Thursday night (Jan. 14). Jeff Griffith asked the committee for permission to build a batting cage for the baseball league. The league has the funds to pay for the cage. They would also like storage for their batting machine and to build a press box in the future. The council voted to allow the baseball league to build a batting cage.

The committee also received a resignation letter from Courtney Poor. Poor was reported to be in favor of the park board (instead of "committee") concept, but he is not comfortable with having the authority to hire and fire an employee. Discussion was held regarding a park board and the towns attorney will research the topic.
