Pulaski County farmer directs donation to local food storage center

FRANCESVILLE - The Humanitarian Distribution Center (HDC) in Francesville has received at $2,500 donation from America's Farmers Grow Communities, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund and directed by local farmers Wayne and Paulette Putt of Pulaski County.

The donation will help the local food distribution organizaton purchase food to distribute to 47 approved food pantries in 13 counties in Northwest Indiana.

The first Wednesday of each month these food pantries come and pick up a full pallet of food to take back to the families in need in their area. In January, the Francesville distribution center gave out 47,473 pounds of food to 44 pantries - 1,079 pounds for each.

This donation is a "huge blessing," say HDC organizers, as it will help the Francesville center purchase more truckloads of food. All of this donation will go to purchase food. The organization is run totally by volunteers with no paid staff. Humanitarian Distribution Center extends its thanks to the Putts for nominating the organization for tis donation.

For six years, America's Farmers Grow Communities has collaborated with farmers to donate over $22 million to more than 8,000 community organizations across rural America. America's Farmers Grow Communities partners with farmers to support local nonprofit causes that positively impact farming communities across rural America. Grow Communities is one program in the America's Farmers community outreach effort, sponsored by the Monsanto Fund. Other programs include America's Farmers Grow Ag Leaders, which encourages rural youth to remain in agriculture and provides $1,500 college scholarships to high school and college students pursing ag-related degrees and America's Farmers Grow Rural Education, wich works with farmers to nominate rural school districts to compete for $10,000 and $25,000 math and science grants.
