Winamac Community HS names top seniors

WINAMAC - Valedictorian Madeline Murray and Salutatorian Emily Downing will stand at the head the Class of 2016 at commencement ceremonies later this month at Winamac Community High School.

Madeline is the daughter of Tim and Joan Murray of Winamac, and Emily is the daughter of John and Denise Downing of Winamac.

Graduation will be at 7 p.m., Friday, May 27, at the WCHS gymnasium.

Madeline will attend Butler University to study communications. Her high school activities have included band, choir, drama, Quizbowl, Future Problem Wolvers, Key Club, student council, HOBY Leadership, Student Leadership Institute, Hoosier Girls State, National Catholic Youth Conference, and Shakespeare Club. She was manager of the soccer team. She has also been active in her church. 

Her awards and honors include National Honor Society, distinguished honor roll and National Merit Scholar.

Emily will attend Purdue University to major in mechanical engineering. Her high school activities included Future Problem Solvers, Academic Superbowl, the conference writing and math contests, National Honor Society, STEM, pep band, concert band, and Venture Crew. She participated in track, soccer, cross country, and served as cross country manager.

Her awards and honors include Venturing bronze, silver and gold awards, Ad Altoire Doi, and Outstanding Junior Band Student.
