One-car accident claims life of Hamlet man

WINAMAC - A one-car accident claimed the life of a Hamlet man Sunday afternoon  (Sept. 25) and injured the driver.

The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office responded to a report received at about 3:22 p.m. of the incident near SR 39 and CR 100 S in Jefferson Township.

Pronounced dead at the scene was the vehicle's passenger Joseph Becker, 23. The driver, Cory W. Clemmons, 22, also of Hamlet, was transported by ambulance to Pulaski Memorial Hospital where he was later airlifted to St. Joseph Memorial Hospital In South Bend for further medical treatment. Police report Clemmons' condition is unknown at this time.

Clemmons was traveling northbound on SR 39, according to the police report, when the vehicle traveled off of the roadway, struck a bridge embankment and travelel into an irrigation ditch. The vehicle was observed to have overturned and become partially submerged in the irrigation ditch. The vehicle sustained extensive damage during the crash.

The auto crash remains under investigation and further information will be released when it becomes available.

The Pulaski County Sheriff's Office was assisted at the scene by the Pulaski County Coroner's Office, Pulaski County EMS, Winamac Fire Department, Medaryville Fire Department, Pulaski County REACT, and the Indiana State Police.
