Gutwein named vice chair of Ag Law Section of Indiana Bar

LAFAYETTE– Stuart Gutwein, co-founder of Gutwein Law, has been named vice chair of the Agriculture Law Section of the Indiana Bar Association.

Joining him on the committee is Gutwein Law attorney Christopher Shelmon.

The Agriculture Law Section of the Indiana Bar provides leadership in identifying and addressing current and emerging issues of importance to the agricultural community, monitors proposed and pending legislation, and assembles and disseminates information to public officials and members of the general public.

“We think it is both important and exciting to be a part of this specific practice area because our firm has such strong ties to the agriculture industry,” said Gutwein. “Being a part of the Ag Law Section of the Indiana Bar Association is a great way to give back to the industry while developing well-rounded attorneys.”

Gutwein Law works with a large number of agricultural clients in central and northern Indiana, with experience in business formation, corporate governance, real estate transactions, farm leases, zoning, contract preparation and negotiation, mergers, and succession planning.

The firm, founded in 2012, has been involved and at the forefront of integrated software and new technology to improve agricultural productivity and resources available to farmers.

“We are on the brink of significant developments and conversions in agriculture – whether that’s GMO-related, the use of big data, or even the use of unmanned aerial vehicles,” said Shelmon. “In order to feed the world’s growing population, the agriculture industry needs to continue to evolve. As such, the law will need to grow and adapt to those technological realities that are required for future production.”
