Police investigate two deaths near Monterey

MONTEREY - Police are investigating the deaths of two Monterey area residents, discovered with gunshot wounds, Friday night at a residence on Elm St., located just north of CR 800 N, about a mile northeast of Monterey.

The victims have been identified as Clifford Foster, 53, and Lynn Foster, 52.

Around 9:30 p.m., Friday (June 17), the Starke County Sheriff's office received a call, resulting in an officer dispatched to the Elm Street residence to conduct a welfare check on a woman who reportedly had not shown up at her place of employment. Police said the caller was "very concerned" for the woman's safety.

Upon arrival at the residence, the responding officer encountered a family member of the home owner who said he had made entry into the home and discovered two dead people inside. According to the police report, the officer entered the residence and found a man and woman, both deceased, each with a single gunshot wound.

Indiana State Police crime scene technicians were called to process the scene.

The case remains an active investigation and no further details are being released at this time until forensic autopsies are conducted Monday.
