Francesville dentist, community leader Dr. Buyer dies

FRANCESVILLE - Longtime Francesville dentist and community leader Dr. John J. Buyer, 89, passed away Monday (June 27), in Indianapolis, surrounded by his family.

Dr. Buyer practiced dentistry for 50 years in Francesville, retiring in 2008.  He served as Salem Township Trustee and on the Pulaski County School Board during school reorganization in Indiana.

He was active with the Francesville Fall Festival, the Lions Club and the American Legion. He was an avid fisherman. He graduated from Culver Military Academy and The Citadel. He served in the U.S. Army during the Korean Conflict.

His survivors include four children, including former Congressman Steve Buyer.
