West Central HS to be first in state to offer Vertex programming to students

FRANCESVILLE - Architectural drafting and design instructor Tyler DeMoss and Principal Patrick Culp have announced that West Central High School will continue its architectural drafting and design course during the 2017-18 school year - but with one major addition.

DeMoss has secured the use of Vertex software for student use in the classroom. Vertex is relatively new to the U.S., but the software is highly acclaimed worldwide.

Only a few colleges in the U.S. currently use Vertex, but that number is gradually increasing. Ivy Tech is one of the colleges introducing Vertex to students during the upcoming  academic year.

West Central and DeMoss have also secured dual-college credit agreements with Ivy Tech. West Central students will receive the same training and instruction as Ivy Tech students on the Vertex software, but at a much reduced cost.

At present, West Central officials believe they are the only high school in the U.S. to offer Vertex software to its students.

According to the Argos System website:

Our parent company, Vertex Systems, Oy, is a leading Finnish CAD and PDM software company established in 1977 in Tampere, Finland providing state-of-the-art solutions for design, product data management, internet-based operations and supply chain management applications

The Vertex Group currently employs nearly 100 professionals in Asia, Australia, Europe and North America. Approximately 18,000 Vertex licenses have been delivered to over 2,000 customers in 37 countries worldwide.

Principal Culp says West Central is proud of its Career and Technical Program, offering courses in welding, health occupations and Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA), accounting, anatomy and physiology, fire science, building trades, mechanical drafting and design, advanced manufacturing, automotive repair and criminal justice.

The addition of the Vertex program helps further the educational opportunities West Central offers to all its students. By offering such cutting-edge technology that is currently being used by architectural drafting and design professionals worldwide, West Central continues to fulfill its mission.
