The Pulaski County Public Library has listed its special programs and activities for February, including a Harry Potter Night and a Valentine's Tote Bag Craft.

Special Events:

Library Lovers Month: Throughout the month of February, buy a heart to show your support for the library’s Summer Learning program. Call the library at 946-3432 for more information.

Harry Potter Night: Come to the library’s Harry Potter party between 4 and 6 p.m.,  Friday, Feb. 2 to make Harry Potter crafts, test your trivia knowledge, and watch the Harry Potter film voted on by the kids in our children’s area.

Valentine’s Tote Bag Craft: Paint a heart design on a handy tote bag, just in time for Valentine’s Day! This craft will begin at 5 p.m., Monday, Feb. 12. Registration is required – call the library to sign up.

Ask the Historian: Pulaski County Historian Karen Fritz will be available at the library to assist with local history research and answer questions from 1 to 3 p.m., Tuesday, Feb. 13. If you’re curious about our local area, be sure to stop in.

Computer Class: Introduction to PowerPoint: Learn about the popular presentation software PowerPoint from 10 a.m. to 12 noon, Friday, Feb. 16. This class is free, but space is limited; call the library to reserve your spot!

Meet Iditarod Racer Karen Land & Her Alaskan Husky Noggin: Karen Land, three-time participant in the 1,150-mile Iditarod Sled Dog Race across Alaska, will speak about her experiences at 1 p.m., Saturday, Feb. 17. Land, who is originally from Indiana, will be bringing Noggin, her Alaskan Husky, along with her Iditarod sled and mushing gear. This program will be great for both kids and adults.

 

Regular Programs:

Lego League: Every Monday at 4 p.m., kids of all ages can come and exercise their imagination as they build with Legos. A weekly theme serves as a launching point for their Lego creations.

Genealogy Help: Mondays 4 to 6 p.m. If you’re interested in your family’s history but just aren’t sure where to start, this is the time and place to find out!

Together Time: This program is held on Tuesday mornings at 10 a.m. and is for our youngest library patrons: music, stories, and fun for babies and toddlers.

Toddler Legos: We build with Duplo blocks—larger Lego bricks designed for young children—on Tuesday mornings at 10:30 a.m. (directly following Together Time).

Family Movie Night is held every Tuesday at 4 p.m. The February movies are:

  • Feb. 6: Lemonade Mouth
  • Feb. 13: Descendants 2
  • Feb. 20: Jumanji
  • Feb. 27: Jump In

Pokémon League: Join local youth as they play the exciting Pokémon card game. The league meets each Wednesday at 4 p.m.

Magic: The Gathering League: Bring your decks to this new weekly program. Join other players in playing the collectible card game Magic: The Gathering every Thursday at 4 p.m.

Board Game Night: Every Thursday at 4 p.m. we set up a chosen game that anyone can play. Our entire board game library is also available.

Story Time: On Saturdays at 10 a.m. we read a picture book and make a fun craft.

Teen Activity Board: Teens gather for fun activities and to brainstorm ideas for upcoming events and programs. TAB meetings are held the second Tuesday of each month at 4 p.m.

Book Club is held on the second Friday of each month at 2:30 p.m. The book up for discussion this month is The Handmaid’s Tale by Margaret Atwood.

Third Thursday programs are presented by the library at the West Side Center in Medaryville each month. A program for kids is held at 5:15 p.m., followed by a program for adults at 7 p.m.
