Pulaski Memorial Hospital Medical and Surgical Group to open new physician office

NORTH JUDSON – Pulaski Memorial Hospital Medical and Surgical Group has announced the opening of a new physician office in North Judson.

Dr. Curtis Bejes, a native resident of North Judson, will serve as medical director for the facility and will base his practice out of that office.

Dr. Bejes earned his Bachelor of Science Degree from Purdue University before receiving his Doctor of Medicine from the Indiana University School of Medicine. Dr. Bejes had been a long-time area practitioner prior to joining the Pulaski Memorial Hospital Medical and Surgical Group in 2016. Along with his time practicing family medicine locally, Dr. Bejes has traveled to Cordova and Dutch Harbor, Alaska on several occasions to work in rural clinics and with family medicine residents in those communities.

The new clinic, which opened Feb. 12, will operate Monday-Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5 p.m. (CT). The office building has recently undergone a major renovation to better meet the patient needs in the community.

Joining Dr. Bejes, will be two nurse practitioners, Beth Ruff, NP-C, and Chantel Anderson, FNP-BC, to assist with patient appointments.

Initially, the office will focus on family medicine, offering services to all ages in the areas of acute illness, chronic illnesses, injuries, wellness, and preventative visits. The clinic will also have access to Pulaski Memorial Hospital’s diagnostic equipment, namely its laboratory services, and the new MRI and CT scanners that were installed at the hospital in 2017.

Dr. Bejes has always believed in The Patient Centered Medical Home model, which is meant to encourage and educate patients on their total wellness. This approach dictates more than simply prescribing medicine; it includes dietary coaching, mental health awareness, and stress management.

Dr. Bejes explains, “Our current model of healthcare has worked well for acute illnesses such as strep throat, pneumonia, broken bones, and cancerous tumors. However, most of the current healthcare we provide is for chronic illnesses, and most chronic illnesses are caused by, or heavily influenced by our lifestyle.”

In the future, the clinic will work with behavioral therapists, an ambulatory pharmacist, and other professionals to assist in the education of patients on the necessity of eating, exercising, and dealing with stress.

Pulaski Memorial Hospital CEO Tom Barry commented, “we are excited that Dr. Bejes is returning to his hometown to practice. He has a large following of patients from the North Judson area, and that is a testament to the high level of care he provides. PMH is lucky to have him as part of our medical group.”

According to Barry, the hospital understands that there may be some challenges with the move. “We know that any time a doctor moves a practice to a new location, some logistical issues arise, but we want the transition to be as smooth and easy as possible."

Many of the appointments have already been rescheduled for the new office, and for those patients who would prefer to see a provider in Winamac, they may call the Clinic at (574) 946-2194 and the staff will be happy to assist them in scheduling an appointment there.”

Dr. Bejes has practiced in North Judson for over 18 years. He knows the area well, and the challenges it faces, “I am excited to have the opportunity to introduce this type of healthcare to my home community. Even though Starke County’s health outcomes and health behaviors improved over the last year, we still rank near the bottom for Indiana. I am returning to North Judson because I have a strong desire to help improve the quality of health where I grew up. My goal is for everyone to be able to feel healthy and at the same time know that they were the ones who took an active role in making that happen.”

The new office is located at 414 Lane St. North Judson, IN 46366. Please call (574) 896-4325 to schedule an appointment.
