The Story Trail combines the joy of reading with the beauty of nature, allowing visitors to walk along and read the story displayed on signs along the walking trail. The ribbon-cutting ceremony will feature The Acorn & the Oak by Rhonda Accardo, a story about a young girl, her mother, and their love for an old oak tree.
The books will change throughout the year, and the Story Trail is available anytime the town park is open. The Story Trail embodies the Pulaski County Public Library Foundation’s mission to inspire literacy and community engagement.
Last fall, resident Beth Ruff-Crawford contacted PCPL executive director MacKenzie Ledley about a StoryWalk that she had seen in another town. She inquired about the possibility of creating a similar project locally, and a group consisting of the Winamac Parks Board, Town of Winamac manager, Pulaski County Public Library director, and the Pulaski County Public Library Foundation began working together to bring the project to fruition.
The Pulaski County Public Library Foundation will provide ongoing support and funding for the Story Trail, continuing to bring joy to local families for years to come.
The Pulaski County Public Library Foundation is a 501(c)(3) organization committed to cultivating early literacy, sustaining lifelong learning, and ensuring the library can continue to meet and exceed the needs of the entire community.
